Unborn Jesus Our Hope

Excerpt from the Prologue

“You are my son, today I have begotten you.”
Ps 2:7 (also Heb1:5)

The Son of God is eternal. As the ancient Christian Nicene Creed (formulated in 325 A.D.) says, “eternally begotten of the Father”. The Navarre Bible Commentary explains the word “today” as used in the above psalm as begotten “in the continuous present of the eternal Godhead”. So Christ is eternally begotten of the Father before He is temporally born of Mary.

If we want to probe this mystery a bit further, we might recall that Christ is begotten within or from the Father’s “bosom” or “heart”. John the Evangelist proclaims “the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father” (Jn 1:18, KJV). The term “bosom” is now antiquated so some biblical translations, such as the New English Bible (NEB), translate the original Greek term as the “Father’s heart”.

We might say that Christ is begotten from the “womb-like” heart of God the Father eternally and then temporally born from the “heart-like” womb of His mother.

UNBORN WORD ALLIANCE is an organization dedicated to honoring the Unborn Christ Child and promoting the Gospel of Life through literary and media projects, seminars and diverse spiritual endeavors. We believe all Christians can discover great spiritual hope as they reflect upon the first nine months of the Incarnation Mission and turn with trust, prayer, devotion and thanksgiving to Unborn Jesus. In honoring Unborn Jesus our Lord we are also reminded of the dignity of all unborn children created in Godís likeness and image.
